Introduction
The
School
of Engineering has identified a need to provide practical post graduate
training for engineers employed in the power industry. This first
subject called ‘Power System Engineering’,
ultimately
comprises part of a Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy and Power
Systems offered by the University of Tasmania, and also
offered
as a professional development course. It is aimed at graduates who
would like to broaden their appreciation of Power Engineering at both a
theoretical and practical level.
Who
Should Attend?
Recent
graduates or those with a background in distribution,
transmission and generating utilities, heavy industry or who are
involved with consulting will find the course useful. In addition
technical officers with experience in the power sector will also be
welcome. The course will be limited to a maximum of 20 students.
Syllabus
and Assessment:
The
proposed
syllabus appears overleaf. Assessment will be by course
work and assignments. There will be no formal examination. The course
will be recognised by the Institute of Engineers Australia as
representing 50 hours of professional development.
Practical
Work and Site Visits:
Practical
work will comprise a considerable part of the course, in the
form of laboratory work at the University and class demonstrations. In
addition there will be visits to several industrial and utility
installations in southern Tasmania.
